Eighteen

Marble Halls by Enya is one of my favourite songs. It evokes a romantic image of bygone days. It also reminds me of one of the best days of my whole life, which happened 18 years ago today.

Can you imagine what the song is about from the wordle below?

Marble Halls by Enya
I dreamt I dwelt in marble halls
With vassals and serfs at my side,
And of all who assembled within those walls
That I was the hope and the pride.
I had riches all too great to count
And a high ancestral name.

But I also dreamt which pleased me most
That you loved me still the same,
That you loved me
You loved me still the same,
That you loved me
You loved me still the same.

I dreamt that suitors sought my hand,
That knights upon bended knee
And with vows no maiden's heart could withstand,
They pledged their faith to me.
And I dreamt that one of that noble host
Came forth my hand to claim.

But I also dreamt which charmed me most
That you loved me still the same
That you loved me
You loved me still the same,
That you loved me
You loved me still the same

Do you have a song which evokes powerful memories? I'd love to hear from you.

Very interesting post, Janet! Songs are really evocative of moments of our lives. It's difficult for me to pick one but, even if it's not one of my favourite songs, "The Final Countdown" by the band Europe (1986) marks the beginning of my disco dancing times.I used to go dancing to a disco that played this song when the disco opened.

Dear Marisa

Thank you so much for adding a song here. I love your choice and it brings back many happy memories of my disco-dancing days, too! It's a great song that is guaranteed to get people up and dancing around.

Best

Hi Janet,

I'm Dani Lyra. Thank you for your post. I was planning a lesson for my advanced students on special songs in our lives. I'm going to use your idea and make a wordcloud to predict content. Thank You! It's just great to be planning a lesson in Brazil learning from people so far away! Great connected world, is it not?

Hi Dani

It's lovely to meet you here for the first time. I am so happy that you have been inspired by this post.

Yes, it is incredible now that we can all connect so easily from around the world and share resources and activities. I love it! My teaching life has become much richer and more rewarding as a result of this.

Best wishes

Hi

Yes, the name of the painting is "La Belle Dame sans Merci" by Sir Frank Dicksee, a pre-Raphaelite painter.
