The Ultimate Word Search Maker

Looking through the archives of Nik Peachey's blog "Quick Shout" today, I came across this fab posting from July 2009 where Nik explains the merits of The Ultimate Word Search Maker. This is a great tool which allows you to create fast and easy to use word searches. Please read Nik's posting here to find out more.

What I really like about the Ultimate Word Search Maker is that it is easily embeddable into a blog or wiki. Try out this word search I made as a test!! All you need to do is click on the first and last letter of the word when you find it.

Janet,

I think this has some applications however, I'm a really "party pooper" when it comes to "word games" and their efficacy in the classroom and for learning.

I always encourage teachers to get Ss making their own wordsearch . It is fun, competitive and unlike "given" word searches, they are not looking for letters but meaning.

Sorry to throw in my ever present cheerleading for student created content!

Hi David

Many thanks for sharing your student created word searches document!!

I greatly appreciate your comments re letting our students create their own activities.

I completely agree it is much more fun for students to create their own. My fault for not adding this to my very brief description.

I'm now going to add another comic to include this excellent suggestion!!

I don't like word searches very much either, especially if they're on paper, but there are lots of teachers here who seem to be fond of them. I suspect it's a way of filling in 15 minutes which could drag on even more) of their class time. However, I had been looking for an online version, especially if it's embeddable, without much success, until now. I think it has its uses if students are told to do them as homework, and, like David says, encouraged to create one of their own, too.
I'll definitely look into this one. Thanks.

Hi Chiew

Thanks for popping by. I agree this word search site is a very practical one. The facility to easily embed it in a blog is a very big advantage.
